Okay. So what happened? You think you leave all the teenage drama, angst, and …PIMPLES behind in your teen years. Only to discover those pesky skin problems come back stronger than ever in your 30′s and 40′s. F-U-N. And when you have a poor complexion, it’s hard for you to feel confident facing the world, especially when you are the face of your business. What’s a busy entrepreneur to do? You work on your skin from the inside out, that’s what you do!
Here are a few of my favorite skin secrets that will give you the biggest results:
TIP #1: Get your hormones balanced. Sometimes something as simple as getting a new birth control prescription (whether you need it for contraceptive use or not) will make all the difference for you to have great looking skin. You might also want to look into hormone replacement therapy, or have your thyroid checked. Unbalanced hormones can not only cause bad skin, but they can also cause unexplained weight gain, fatigue, hair loss, and mood swings. Be sure to find a physician that specializes in hormones. Not all doctors have equal training in this area. Find a good one. They are worth it!
TIP #2: Try products with “Active Ingredients.” Under your physician’s recommendation, try one of the forms of Retin A, or products with Glycolic acid. They will prescribe the right level for you. If that is out of your current budget, you can even find products with active ingredients in your local drug store. But if you are trying to play chemist with your skin and aren’t getting the results you want, then it might be worth the extra expense to make a doctor’s appointment. Dermatologists, plastic surgeons and med-spas are a great place to start.
Tip #3: Drink veggie juice. This one sounds crazy, but St. Andrews University did a recent study where people who consumed high amounts of carrotenoids (found in carrots and tomatoes) had a healthier glow than and were deemed more attractive than if they had a tan. Did you know that green veggies detoxify and clear your skin? If carrotenoids make your skin glow, and leafy greens help to clear your skin, then eating (or drinking) your veggies is one of the easiest cures for breakouts. But veggies aren’t just for your skin. They are also a great way to dramatically reduce your cancer risks, since 75% of cancers are caused by lifestyle factors. The average American adult gets only 3 of the recommended 5 servings of veggies a day….and that’s if you include french fries and fruit juice as servings. You need more veggies. If the thought of eating piles and piles of veggies is exhausting, then that’s where juicing them come in. Here’s my favorite recipe that my husband (a Naturopathic Medical Doctor) came up with. Not only do you get all 5 of your daily servings of veggies at once, but it also tastes great! (Even our kids will drink it!) This is what you’ll need:
- Add water and blend the ingredients together. Use whatever amounts of ingredients that work for you. If you have extra tomatoes, add more tomatoes. If you don’t like celery as much, use less celery. The blueberries make it yummy and remember the more berries you add, the sweeter it will be. Try to avoid using mango, pineapple, grapes or other high glycemic fruits. Berries or other low-glycemic fruits are a better choice. You can also have fun and add a squeeze of fresh lime and some ginger to spice things up a bit.
And when you combine these internal and external tips together, you will discover your skin looks better now than ever before. Now you can confidently face the world…and your clients (and your skin) will thank you for it.
