Making the Most of your First Day of School!

Kari Doody - Making the Most of your First Day of School!Going back to school can be a very exciting time for kids. Knowing how to prepare your child for the first day of school is key in making sure that they start the year off right. Even more important than school supplies and a new backpack is bringing a good attitude with you.

Each school year is an opportunity for a fresh start. New teachers, new classrooms and potentially new friends. Before school starts, talk to your kids about their expectations and goals.

Making a list of what they want to accomplish is always a great reminder throughout the year. Encourage your child to follow these simple tips on their first day:

  1. Be confident– Every child cares what other people think about them. Remind your child to make eye contact, say hello to people and most importantly SMILE. You only have 7 seconds to make a positive first impression!
  2. Be open minded– Each school year we are given new opportunities and just because your best friend is no longer in your class does not mean that you won’t have any friends. Look at this as an opportunity to make new friends.
  3. Think positively– Each year were are given the opportunity to start fresh. This is a great chance to work on your penmanship or get better in Math. If your child has a positive attitude they will achieve success faster and more easily.
