Recently What’s Up for Kids was introduced to the Happy Kids-Happy Pets line of trading cards, winner of a 2014 Family Choice Award. With the school year starting off and October being National Bullying Prevention Month, we thought parents would be interested to learn about the Dealing with Bullies cards along with the other topics offered.
Happy Kids-Happy Pets offers easy to read, trading size, animal cards for elementary aged children that provide kids with information in a fun and innovative way. Just like baseball cards and other trading cards, kids can have fun collecting these, each set comes in a package with 14 cards and there are over 200 cards in all. The front of the cards have dog and cat photos, but the back of each card has an educational lesson. There are four categories of cards offered: Dealing with Bullies, Life Lessons, Caring for Your Dog and Learning about Cats. The story lesson on the back is “written” by the pet, Happy Kids-Happy Pets believes children relate well to animals and won’t feel as though they are being lectured to when the lesson comes from a pet. After purchasing the cards, the kids can go to the Happy Kids-Happy Pets website to download the free “read along” audio version loaded complete with sound effects. The combined audio and visual presentation encourages beginning readers. The cards are written in easy-to-understand language that encourages learning and literacy. Through listening along with the audio accompaniment, children can learn the lessons and improve their reading skills in fun way.
Happy Kids-Happy Pets motto is, “Treat ALL people and ALL animals exactly how you want to be treated. Kindness is Cool!” Happy Kids-Happy Pets, LLC was founded in 2012 by Betty Delman of Buford, GA. She assembled a group of animal lovers concerned about animal welfare and the societal issues facing our kids today. The company’s goal is to teach children important lessons about humane treatment of animals, personal responsibility, self-esteem, and respect for both people and animals…and to have fun while they are learning.
