Family Surf Vacation in Sagres, Portugal

Surf Article Kerri ZaneWe’re lucky to live in Southern California. We’ve got some of the best surfing destinations right in our backyard, but sometimes we still feel the need to mix things up. So this month we ventured out to explore one of the up and coming hidden gems of surfing destinations in the world, Sagres, Portugal.

There are 22 beaches within a 30-minute drive in this area where you and your kids will find amazing Atlantic rollers. With south and west-facing coastline it provides fine surf conditions the whole year round for all surfer levels regardless of the swell and wind direction. Some of the best beaches for beginners are Castelejo, Amado, Carrapateira and Arrifana and for more experienced surfers try Ponta Ruiva, Cordoama and Vale Figueiras. The best spot to stay with your family is Martinhal Beach Resort & Hotel. Accommodation options range from 5-star hotel rooms to a selection of spacious family houses. In addition to surfing your family can luxuriate in any one of the 5 swimming pools, crèche and kids club, spa, gym, 3 restaurants all with children play areas, one family surf bar and village shops.

This April 4th through the 7th Martinhal is hosting Roxy Surf Days. The brands very own Portuguese Roxy girls will be at the resort to get guests into the surf spirit. When you’ve had enough surfing some other activities at the resort include bodyboarding, yoga or pilates, bike tours, walking tours, kayak tours, tennis lessons and more.

Create a life long memory for you and your children!
