BentoThe Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles Presents Cute Character Bento Contest 2015

This Online Bento Contest co-hosted by the Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles and BentoUSA by AllThingsForSale. Entrants submit photos of cute and creative character bento decorated in a food container. The Japanese Consulate and BentoUSA will select the top 10 finalists together with a honorary judge Ochikeron, a Japanese YouTube personality and bento expert.

The Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles would like to celebrate the inscription of Washoku (Traditional Dietary Cultures of the Japanese-notably for the celebration of New Year-) to UNESCO’s List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2013 and to enjoy Japan’s cute and cool food culture with you. As Japanese cute bento (lunch box in Japanese) creation is already becoming popular in the U.S., the Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles would like to cherish Japan’s cute and cool food culture by having a bento contest, followed by an exhibition of the winning entries featuring an opening lecture and demonstration about cute bento culture in the U.S.

The grand prize winner will receive one round-trip ticket from the US to Japan presented by All Nippon Airways (ANA), an Award Certificate from the Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles, a $300-$400 value rice cooker presented by one of the leading Japanese supermarkets (Nijiya Market, Mitsuwa Marketplace, Marukai Corporation), a $100-value bento prize pack from BentoUSA, a $50-value bento prize pack from CuteZCute, a Cookbook from Kinokuniya Book Stores of America and a food gift bag from Nijiya Market.
