3 Surefire Ways to Know if You’re Raising a Wild Child

Children Draw In The StreetIf you’re not sure whether your child is more spirited than the average child, here are a few clues to look for:

  1. Do they use your furniture, appliances and bookshelves like they were gym equipment? Most children have a lot of energy. There are children, however, that take that energy to a whole new level. Is your child the next Simone Biles? Enroll them in a class and let them use the facility’s equipment while you get a cup of tea and exhale.
  2. Does the sound of silence make you shudder? Does the eerie absence of noise send your mind to wondering what horrors you’re about to find? It takes a creative mind to figure out how to fit a square key into a round power strip. Put that brilliance to work on a store bought, built to not catch on fire, electric experiment kit! Genius never looks like we think it should.
  3. Has your child recruited the neighborhood kids to spray paint the sidewalks in fluorescent colors? Cultivate those leadership skills through clubs and team activities. Politics may be their thing. Perhaps a future president in the making? Could they start in January?

If you’ve answered yes to any or all of the above, you probably have a beautiful, spirited, “wild child” who will keep you on your toes for years to come. Give them the love and support to continue their journey while making sure that solid boundaries keep them safe. Our world needs their vibrant energy! Most of all, take care of yourself and get the support you need to enjoy this incredible ride called parenting.
